Comparison

The best jump rope counter apps for iPhone, compared

Quick answer

For counting without extra gear, use a camera app: SkipCount or Jump Rope Flow. With an Apple Watch, YaoYao has the most ratings of the watch counters. AirJump counts through AirPods, and Crossrope counts only with its own AMP smart handles. All nine are free to download; prices and ratings below are from the US App Store on November 2, 2026.

A jump rope app that counts for you saves you from losing track at 140. The real difference between them is how they count: through the iPhone camera, an Apple Watch, AirPods, the phone in your pocket, the sound of the rope, or sensors in a smart rope. Pick the method that fits the gear you already own, then the app.

We make SkipCount, one of the nine apps below. Its limits are listed the same way as everyone else's, and every price and rating comes from each app's US App Store page on November 2, 2026. Nobody paid to be included.

Which jump rope counter app should you use?

  • No watch, no smart rope: a camera app. SkipCount or Jump Rope Flow.
  • You wear an Apple Watch: YaoYao, Jump Rope Fit or JumRop.
  • You run with AirPods: Jump Counter & Rebound (AirJump), or the AirPods mode in YaoYao, JumRop or Jump Rope Flow.
  • Phone in your pocket: Jump Rope Master.
  • You own a Crossrope AMP rope: the Crossrope app. Without AMP handles it does not count jumps.

How does a jump rope counter app count skips?

Camera. You lean the phone against something at about knee height and step back until your whole body is in frame. The app follows your body and counts each landing. It works with any rope and nothing goes on your wrist or in your ears. The catch is space and light: it needs to see all of you, and very small, low hops are the hardest to see.

Apple Watch. The watch's motion sensors read the rhythm of your wrist turning the rope. It works anywhere, including outdoors with no place to prop a phone, and many of these apps add heart rate and save the workout to Apple Health. You need a watch, and the count depends on how steadily your wrist moves.

AirPods. Supported AirPods have motion sensors that track your head, which rises and falls with every jump. No watch needed, but only some models work.

Phone in your pocket. The phone feels each bounce. Simple, though a phone in a loose pocket moves around, and you can't see the count while you jump.

Sound. The app listens for the rope hitting the floor. Fine in a quiet room on a hard floor, less so on carpet or with music playing.

Smart rope. Sensors in the handles count rope turns and send them over Bluetooth. You have to buy that rope.

The nine apps, one by one

SkipCount

Our app. Prop up the iPhone or iPad, step back and jump; the camera counts every landing and a voice says the number out loud, so you never look down. Counting in Just jump mode is free with the daily goal, streak, challenges and badges. Pro adds timers, goal mode, full history and the calendar. The video is analysed on the device and never saved. It has no Apple Watch or AirPods mode, and it needs room for your whole body in frame. See how it works.

Jump Rope Flow

The most flexible counter here: camera, Apple Watch, AirPods, or typing the result in afterwards. It has 13 ready-made programs, including HIIT and Tabata intervals, plus streaks, levels and 75 achievements. It is new, with 7 US ratings so far, and needs iOS 18.

YaoYao

A long-running Apple Watch counter with 1,041 US ratings, the most of the watch apps. The developer says it counts double unders, gives a voice update every 100 jumps, and can count with AirPods instead of a watch. Its paid plans are among the cheapest in this list.

Jump Rope Fit

An Apple Watch app that uses machine learning to count jumps and time spent jumping, then saves workouts to Apple Health. The iPhone app shows your history. The paid tier, Fitness Insights, adds deeper stats.

JumRop

A small, light app (19 MB) that counts with an Apple Watch or AirPods and syncs workouts, calories and heart rate to Apple Health so jump rope closes your rings. Pro is a single in-app purchase listed at $1.99 or $3.99.

Jump Counter & Rebound (AirJump)

Built around AirPods: they count the jumps and an Apple Watch, if you have one, adds heart rate and calories. The developer lists AirPods Pro, AirPods 4, AirPods Max, AirPods 3rd generation and Beats Fit Pro.

Jump Rope Master

The simplest setup: tap Start, put the iPhone in your pocket, jump, tap Stop. It has 915 US ratings and its US store page lists no in-app purchases.

Jump Rope Counter with Calorie

Counts by listening for the rope or by feeling motion, your choice, and has a global leaderboard. It has the lowest rating here (4.0) and its last update was in March 2026.

Crossrope

The most-rated jump rope app by far, with 13,676 US ratings and hundreds of guided workouts. It is really a training app for Crossrope's weighted ropes: jump counting, Free Jump and benchmarks need the AMP Bluetooth handles. If you already own them, it is the obvious pick.

Which app should you pick?

I don't own an Apple Watch or a smart rope

Use a camera app. SkipCount if you want the count spoken out loud and a free daily mode; Jump Rope Flow if you want structured programs and may add a watch later.

I already wear an Apple Watch

YaoYao has the longest track record, Jump Rope Fit has the most detailed history, and JumRop is the lightest. All three save to Apple Health.

I want guided workouts, not only a counter

Crossrope, if you have or plan to buy AMP handles. Otherwise Jump Rope Flow.

I just want something free

SkipCount's free mode counts every session with the camera. Jump Rope Master is free with the phone in your pocket.

How we made this list

We searched "jump rope counter" on the US App Store on November 2, 2026 and kept the apps that count jumps automatically on an iPhone. Every price, rating and feature comes from each app's own store page (linked under Sources). We read the descriptions and did not test accuracy side by side; when we do, the results will be added here with the date.

Questions

What is the best free jump rope counter app?+

Every app in this list is free to download. SkipCount counts with the camera for free in its Just jump mode, with the spoken count, daily goal and streak; timers and full history are Pro. Jump Rope Master counts with the phone in your pocket and its US store page lists no in-app purchases.

Can my iPhone count jump rope without an Apple Watch?+

Yes. Camera apps such as SkipCount and Jump Rope Flow watch you jump from a propped-up phone. Jump Rope Master counts with the phone in your pocket, and Jump Rope Counter with Calorie can listen for the rope hitting the floor.

Do I need a smart jump rope to count jumps?+

No. A smart rope such as Crossrope AMP counts from sensors in the handles, but camera, Apple Watch, AirPods and pocket apps all work with any ordinary rope.

How accurate are jump rope counter apps?+

Each method has its own weak spots. Camera apps need your whole body in frame and good light, and very small hops are the hardest to see. Watch and AirPods apps read your movement, so arm or head motion that is not a jump can be counted. We have not run our own side-by-side accuracy test yet.

Which jump rope app works with AirPods?+

Jump Counter & Rebound (AirJump) is built around AirPods motion sensors. YaoYao, JumRop and Jump Rope Flow also list an AirPods mode. Check the supported models on each store page: AirJump lists AirPods Pro, AirPods 4, AirPods Max, AirPods 3rd generation and Beats Fit Pro.

Does a camera jump rope app record video of me?+

It depends on the app, so read its privacy label. SkipCount analyses frames on the device and discards them within a fraction of a second; nothing is stored or uploaded, and there is no account.

Which app is best for jump rope workouts, not only counting?+

Crossrope has the largest workout library of the apps here, with new workouts every week, but its counting needs AMP handles. Jump Rope Flow has 13 ready-made programs and counts with the camera, a Watch or AirPods.
